Colchester Teacher Training Consortium - Secondary

The Colchester Teacher Training Consortium (CTTC) is a strong and collaborative partnership of fourteen secondary schools and colleges in the Colchester area with a number of distinctive features that contribute to diversity and choice for trainees.

The wide variety of partner schools is a major strength of the consortium. We can offer trainees a teaching experience in a mixed comprehensive, an 11-18 school, a Roman Catholic school, a Grammar school, an Academy and a Sixth Form college.

The range of subject specialisms and awards to be found within the Consortium is exceptional. In short CTTC has friendly well equipped schools that offer a wide range of educational experiences and understand the needs of Initial Teacher Training. It is a measure of our success that each year a high proportion of our trainees gain employment in our partner schools.

The Colchester Teacher Training Consortium is fully committed to the ideals and principles of School Centred Initial Teacher Training and has the personnel, resources and the will to make teacher training in Colchester schools a success. Our goal is to provide the very best Initial Teacher Training, and to equip our trainees with the skills and knowledge for a rewarding career in Education. We endeavour to ensure this through celebrating the diversity of the consortium and promoting interdependence, providing high quality professional development for personnel in schools and developing a culture of professional self-evaluation.

Our PGCE is validated by the University of Greenwich and through the university we can also offer 60 credits towards a Master’s degree. The latest Ofsted inspection has highlighted numerous strengths in the quality of our provision.

  • The strong collegiate nature of the Partnership with an ethos of mutual support and good communication that provides a secure and effective learning environment for the trainees.
  • The high level of commitment from all members of the Partnership that contribute to the high levels of dedication and satisfaction among trainees.
  • Strong leadership that has strengthened and refined the provision.

The course offers high quality postgraduate training, leading to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE validated by the University of Greenwich. The 38 week course combines practical school experience with professional training and gives a choice of age range: Pathway One, 3-7 years (Early Years and Key Stage 1); and Pathway Two, 5-11 years (Key Stages 1 and 2).

The school-based programme, developed and led by Headteachers and outstanding practitioners in the area, includes significant school experience, block teaching practices, training and tutorials.
